Itaforte BioProdutos was founded in 1995 by Brazilian entrepreneurs with agro-forestry background, with the objective to produce fungi-based biopesticides. The company and its industrial installations are located in Itapetininga, some 170 km from São Paulo city, taking about 10 000 m2, involving laboratory, inoculation rooms, production chambers, drying system, storage chambers, etc, employing about 60 persons, giving a substantial social-contribution to the region where it is located and also to the agriculture activities especially on organic products and environmental friendly programs.
Itaforte BioProdutos has since 1996 a technological agreement with ESALQ - Escola Superior de Agricultura “Luiz de Queiroz”, the agro sciences branch of the São Paulo University (USP), for the purpose of developing biological products of high quality for the use in sustainable agriculture. The selection of more aggressive microorganisms for control of pests and diseases is a continuous work of the R&D division of Itaforte BioProdutos, directly or in cooperation with the University.
As a pioneer in the area of fungi-based biopesticides, Itaforte BioProdutos targets the agriculture activities for efficient, non-toxic, and environmental friendly products. The quality of products is guaranteed first via a quality control system and via an expeditious system of delivery, directly to the customer, protecting the quality of the biological product. Company provides after-sales assistance on storage/handling, care, methods and timing for application, as success factors for the biological control. Sales agents located in different States contribute in the delivery and technical assistance all over the Brazil.
The bioproducts of Itaforte BioProdutos are registered at MAPA (Agriculture Ministry), involving the triple approval of Ibama (environmental agency), Anvisa (health agency) and MAPA (agriculture).
Products
Microbiological control, as one of the biological control method, involves microorganisms which are used for the control of insects or mites or for the inhibition of plant pathogens. The target is to reduce the population of pests or diseases in a given agro system. The use of microorganisms in the control of pests and diseases in agriculture has grown in recent years and plays and important role in the so called integrated pest management.
Among the various microbiological control agents present in the nature fungi, and its various strains, are highly important. Itaforte BioProdutos selects in the nature the biological control agents of high efficiency for the control of some pests and plants diseases, used by the agriculture producer in the organic or conventional systems.
Itaforte BioProdutos presently offers 4 fungi-based products with registered trade marks: Metarril (Metarhizium anisopliae), Boveril (Beauveria bassiana) and Vertirril (Lecanicillium longisporum), which are used for the control of insects and mites; Trichodermil (Trichoderma harzianum) which is used for the control of other fungi, existing in the soil and causing plant diseases.
